Vennesang / friend song

FamilyPosted by Jacob Sørensen Mon, August 18, 2008 14:48:08

The wife and I heard a song in the radio the other day.
It was written by a danish poet called Benny Andersen, and all though I didn't like the version (because I don't like the artist performing) they played that day, we agreed that we would teach this song to our kids.

The song is about having friends, and we thought it would be a good one to teach the kids, and explain the meaning of the words to them.

It goes like this (in danish):

"Vennesang

"

I'll try to roughly translate it:

"Friend song

I love to sit by my self
and dream and fantasize.
But when I've been alone long enough,
I do not want to be alone anymore.
Then it is good to have a real friend
and to have someone to talk to again.
One with whom you can shared your dreams,
to play, or dance or swim with.
It is nice to be on your own, but,
it is best to have a friend.

It is lovely to wander on your own,
to watch the flowers and the bees,
and birds that sits on branches,
but then something inside me says.
Now it is good to have a real friend
and to have someone to talk to again.
One with either trowsers or skirt on,
doesn't matter as long as you can trust that one.
It is nice to be on your own, but,
it is best to have a friend.

I often think secret thoughts,
that others do not even know about
and only to a friend should you then tell
your secret plans.
Then it is good to have a real friend,
and to have someone to confide in again.
You can be thin or rather fat,
as long as you can keep a secret.
It is nice to be on your own, but,
it is best to have a friend.

I love to play on my own,
and make drawings and sculpt,
but when I have played on my own for long enough,
I do not want play alone anymore.
Then it is good to have a real friend,
and to have someone to play with again.
One you can jump og swing with,
one you can laugh and sing with.
It is nice to be on your own, but,
it is best to have a friend.
"

A rather simple poem, but the message it delivers is beautiful and essential, and - I think - extremely important to teach our kids.

Sebastian's sick

FamilyPosted by Jacob Sørensen Wed, August 22, 2007 12:10:56

Went to the paediatric unit in Aalborg Hospital yesterday to have Sebatian checked out.

He has been having skin rashes for the past week or so, and has had treatment with penicillin. We thought he had a staph. infection, but in fact it turned out to be something called Henoch- Schönlein Purpura (HSP).

It causes skin rash, swelling and pain in joints, abdominal pain, and in severe cases it can cause kidney damage.

Sebastian has rashes and swelling, and has had abdomonal pain, but luckily there were no signs of his kidneys being stressed.

The cure ? Time and if necessary pain killers !

The disease is non-contagious, so he can attend kinder garten.
But trying to find a danish description of the disease that can be understood by ordinary people, not just doctors, so that you can inform the Kinder garten employees and the parents of the other kids, turned out to be easier said than done.

This was completely non-existent. So now I got a hold of a description form an other hospital, that I will have to have desciphered by Rikke's sister, who knows some latin and medical terms, as she is a secretary in Aalborg Hospital.

Dammit.

The not so nice thing about the disease is that I read, but I don't know if it's true, that it is caused by a genetic flaw and a mix of viruses, but it was not hereditary.
And in some cases the disease can be chronic.

So I'm, thinking does Sebastian has damaged genes ? And will he ever be cured ?

A parent's worries never end.

Holidays

FamilyPosted by Jacob Sørensen Thu, August 02, 2007 08:55:51

Visited Jumboland the other day.

Jumboland is basically an indoor playground / activity center for kids. So all the kids had a great time. We only managed to take some (not so good) photos of Rasle.

Chaos and disorder - again

FamilyPosted by Jacob Sørensen Wed, June 13, 2007 08:56:26

Today we are going to get a new carpet in our living room. Thus - everything in the living room OUT of the living room. Where to store ? Where ever smiley.

Suddenly our livingroom is a ballroom (however the wife did not appreciate my suggestion of walzing this morning) - or in Rasle's case a big new world for exploring.

The last two photos is from our hall and our bedroom that are now temporary store rooms. smiley

And this afternoon - after work. We will have to put our furniture back in the living room.

This is my current wallpaper on my mobile device.

This is my youngest son called Rasmus.
We affectionately call him 'Rasle' which is the danish word for 'rattle', as he is always very noisy when he is hungry. smiley

Nearly finished rebuilding

FamilyPosted by Jacob Sørensen Sun, March 04, 2007 19:52:44

So now we're nearly finished with our rebuild.

The only thing missing is the correct drawer for our bathroom furniture which our d*mn supplier still has to deliver.

But anyway here are some pictures of the result:

The above is our new bathroom, "complete" with missing drawer and all.
